I was overwhelmed by the response I received from writing about Florence. There was such an outpouring of love and compassion on a scale which I had not expected. All of those amazing, wonderful voices that spoke to my post, I want to say a very deep and heartfelt thanks from the bottom of my heart. Thank you so much. I would love it if Florence could have shared in the love and compassion too but sadly she is no longer here. But that does not mean that because she is not here to hear all those wonderful sentiments, she cannot share the love. Florence was my mother. And because I am her daughter a piece of her, a very valuable and precious part of her lives on in me, and so because she did not have a voice while she was a victim of domestic violence, I hope by sharing with you a very poignant time in her life, her voice will speak once again.

Florence, my mother, your once tortured soul I hope rests in peace and I hope that you don’t mind sharing that wonderful day you had in the Holy Land shortly before you left us. I found your journal in amongst your things, and I read about the amazing time you had. You didn’t have many amazing days for longer than I care to say, sadly for you, but I know you treasured life and all it had to give despite facing many dark days. This light-filled day was a blessing to me when I read it and so many were saddened by your experience, that I would like them to know that you experienced joy and you were able to record it so that I would one day find it and share it with others who care for you.
Florence in her own words:
“The tour of the Holy Land is a most exciting and moving experience. The Bible is made alive. It surpassed all my expectations.
During my grown-up years it was always my desire to visit the Holy Land – Christ’s birthplace. Oh I wish I had been there when He walked among men.
Now that I have gone there, I was really overwhelmed by the vastness of the land and the awesomeness of it. I have seen a lot, and I am certain that there was much more to be seen. But the place that had the greatest impact on me was the Garden Tomb where Jesus was supposed to have been laid after His death. I entered the tomb and saw the imprint of His body and as I emerged I glanced upon the wall and saw the words: “He is not here. He is risen” and then I suddenly realised that my Redeemer lives and for a moment I was transfixed.
Then we began to wander through the Garden and the visit was terminated by Holy Communion and prayer. I never experienced such peace in my life. All the tiredness had left me and I felt so relaxed I had to tell my experience to my room-mate when I returned that evening to the hotel. I am so glad I was able to make the journey to Jerusalem because what I saw and heard will linger with me for the rest of my life. We returned home on the 24th February 1996 and our lives have never been the same since that week that was spent in the Holy Land. We stayed at the King’s Hotel in Jerusalem”.
I am pleased to have given my mother a voice. So many of us are unable to use that most precious of gifts for whatever reason. It is such a powerful instrument and with power comes responsibility. The responsibility to use our voices wisely.

Oh, my Lady Marie! This is so beautiful.
To bring your mother back to life and share her with us was so generous of you 🙂
What a beautiful writer she was! I can clearly where you got your gift 🙂
Much respect 🙂
May she rest in eternal peace.

Thank you so much for your lovely, generous comments Lady G. My mother was beautiful, but circumstances beyond her control did in fact affect her ability to “mother” me. That said, I try to remember the good parts, and the awful parts, I seek therapy for. It is working for me. Life didn’t treat her very well and I helped in my own way – not sure it was always appreciated though. I guess nobody has the perfect life and what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger, as they say.
This all sounds so serious, I am tempted to put the “Y” word in here! 🙂 xXx

1. Am I being dense? What is the ‘Y’ word?
2. It’s becoming difficult to find a person who doesn’t have some form of abuse in their background. What a world.

Aww, dear theeditorsjournal, Lady G and I are just messing around! The ‘Y’ word is nothing sinister. Bless you for your concern. :))) Lady G writes “Yaaaaasssssssssss” a lot on all her comments. It’s kind of her word for showing that she enthusiastically approves of what is being said. SO because we were talking so seriously (very rarely), to liven things up a bit and introduce a bit of jollity into the conversation I said I felt like throwing in the ‘Y’ word which is Yaaaaaassssssss!
What a world indeed?!!

Hi Lady G. The strangest thing has happened. This lovely comment you made on my post: Florence Part 2 somehow has disappeared from that page. I can’t think where it has gone to, but you did not by any chance remove it? It’s really puzzling me, because I wanted to reference you to another blogger and when I scrolled to see your comment it wasn’t there and neither was my reply. Strange?
LikeLiked by 1 person
That is strange Lady Marie. I absolutely did not remove it as I feel very strongly about what I said about your beautiful mother and about you.
I always thought that comments could only be removed by the blog’s administrator.
This is both puzzling and troubling.

Referring to our message prior to this: do you suppose that they have their own WordPress on “the other side” and are able to mess with our messages? Maybe we ought to let them know, that we know, that they know, that we’re keeping them “alive” by blogging about them and that we’re very much aware of what is going on. Do I sound completely mad or what???!!!! LOL

Ooooh Lady G, that never occurred to me. It is a bit strange though. As I believe in that sort of thing, I am going to say that the mystery has now cleared up: what else could it be but those two naughty ladies having a good laugh about us in Heaven. Trying to make me think that I’m going a little mad in my senior years. LOL

To beat Mrs. Williams I would recite the best poem ever
To beat Lady G. I would pick an argument with her that I know I would lose, thus distracting her from her objective. Yaaaasssss

With respect Mr “T” Mrs Williams has the handle on reciting the best poem ever. So you have to go back to the drawing board. I don’t like to speak for others, but since Lady G and I are united in battle, I think your plan is a little flawed: don’t you think that by sharing your intention so publicly, she won’t already be working on her defence strategy? Think again TROUBLE! LOL

“Gatorade” is a sports drink–in essence, it is a glorified soft drink without the fizzy stuff and a little less sugar 🙂

Your compassion is overwhelming, Marie. You have such a beautiful spirit to forgive your mother for what was done to you. The relationship between mother and daughter is so often fractured by abuse, torn asunder though the primary offense is by another parent. Sides are taken, bridges burned and never rebuilt. Despite what you suffered, you have become an amazing woman. Your mother would be proud. I’d like to think, in fact, she is. ❤

Your comment about my mother being proud of me has brought a tear to my eye: that is all I ever wanted: to make her proud. xXx

Hey Mek, I love the Freudian typo: I like to think that not only did I get it right, but I was HOT on the right trail te he! You have done 335 words more than the eponymous 10000hoursleft – hurrah!! Well done, keep hotfooting it along and have a great week too. :)xXx ps. I’ve found another Jamaican patois comrade – but you’ve no need to fret. You will always be first. ha ha

It’s not you Marie, it’s me- truly, and I’m not just saying that cause you found another patois comrade 😂 Seriously though, it was a typo- was 10,335 but it’s now…drumroll…14,172! Mind you, its more quantity than quality at this stage. So who’s your new comrade huh? *not jealous*

That first sentence sounds like something you say to someone when you’re trying to break-up. :))) We’re not breaking up are we Mek? How will I manage without you? Ha ha
Amazing!!!! 10,335 words increased to a whopping 14,172. I’m sure you’re being modest about the quality.:)))
Well she is someone I met when you were away, abandoning me … NO! Seriously, it’s Lady G and she has a comment at the top of the page. So glad you’re not jealous. I wasn’t sure how to break it to you ….LOL

Haha that was the intended effect, combining the thing about the typo and you thinking you’d got it wrong + having the patois thing going on with another blogger! 😂 I didn’t recognise and patois in that comment- does that mean I am now fluent in the language? Seriously, no modesty about the quality- just honesty and reality…it’s ok though, cause ill work on it over dozens of re-drafts.

Ha ha – you got me. There was no patois in that particular comment but we’ve had a couple of exchanges on her own blog. Apparently she has a good Jamaican friend who taught her some phrases and in return she’s taught her friend some American slang. All very civilized, you know. So I told her that funnily enough I’d been having a few conversations with you concerning patois. Such a coincidence! 🙂 Dozens of redrafts? That sounds like hard work to me. I guess you must be getting ready for bed now or you’re already in it. See I’m getting quite an expert with the time difference now.:) xx

You and your mother’s writing voice are very similar. It’s almost eerie. I’m happy to see that you were able to give her a voice. I heard a quote recently, “Just because we don’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not manifesting.” I think it’s appropriate here. Writing and creativity are always manifesting in one way or another. In this case, through you for your mother. Thanks for sharing piece of her and you.

Such a lovely paean to your very dear mother, Marie, and you are blessed to have records of her very own words. I tried to persuade my mother to write a biography once she retired, though sadly she never did – it would have been so precious to all those who remained, and those who were and are yet to come within our family.

Thank you so much Hariod. Such a shame your mother could not be persuaded. I am sure that even though she did not write a biography, you and your family have very precious memories of her. Perhaps you could do your own small personal one detailing those memories, adding photos etc. Just a thought!
