You have such a deft and gentle touch, Marie. Your poem is, itself, an offer of aid — a sort of spiritual bandage, for those who have lost their laughter. It urges us not to heap self-criticism on top of despondency. We so often define ourselves by our beliefs. When those seem distant, we can feel as if we’ve lost our anchor. But you remind us that life lives on underground and will, with time and care, resurface to bloom anew. Sorry for all the mixed metaphors (LOL). ❤

I do think that focus changes over time. What once took up real estate in my brain has reduced significantly over the past decade or two. I actually feel better and stronger, the more I shed, that way.
Great poem, Marie – a message many doubtless find great comfort in digesting.

Thanks dear Bela. Yes, a clutter-free mind is a healthy and strong one. And that’s an aspect I had not thought of so I’m pleased that you brought this to my attention. I was more thinking about how the challenges of life can make you feel as if you’re not able to cope, then you can feel as if there is a problem with you, when really why should you be expected to super-human with everything life throws at you. Sometimes feeling weak can be a strength.

This has never happened to me before (oh I tell a lie: once before), but it is so weird. It was about 7am (my time) when I actually raised my arms as if playing a guitar and hummed along …lol

It is my son’s bedtime but not mine yet. Only 8:30 pm. Quick replies courtesy of the WP app I installed – do now I’m getting alerts, whereas previously I was checking WP on my phone via the webpage. So are you going to record the tune and share it?

Thanks Marie. A few interruptions on the writing front, so progress has been a little slow these past 7 or 10 days. Yesterday was a particularly awkward extraction at the dentist and I’m feeling a bit tender as a result — an hour, it took! 😮

I feel for you Hariod. I say that as I sit here with niggling tooth pain which I’m hoping will miraculously vanish. You are so brave and more importantly you survived. That deserves some sort of award – be kind to yourself and don’t worry about the writing until you feel up to it …:)

Yes I’ve noticed that Kathy!:) I guess that’s what makes the blogging world so interesting. You obviously have the confidence to write, whereas with me, I don’t trust myself to use my imagination to it’s full extent – I fear ridicule. To be a great writer I think you need to be fearless to some degree.

I am writing to you with my serious hat on, so please note! In times of despair I usually look for something to read – quite often its Maya Angelou as I like her take on finding something positive, however dark. ( especially, I rise, I rise, I rise). I have, as many have before me, turned to the Bible and quite a few Psalms have focused my mind and helped me with perspective, if nothing else. I read your poem a few days ago and read it again today. Its quite simply ” superb!” and full of hope and meaning. I have printed it off and put it on my pin board at work. There is, as you may imagine, a story linked to this angst and searching but you, dear friend, have in a few lines, allowed me to stop – draw breath and start again.

I feel as if it was meant for you – a spiritual message that you needed and I was able to provide. I’m so surprised that so many people liked it – at the time I felt it was rather simplistic, and it was to some extent, me trying to chivvy myself along. So true Marie: When we are not ourselves or in pain we can easily lose sight of what is important. Losing these “anchors” can leave us questioning and blaming ourselves causing us to spiral ever downward. This is a lovely reminder that just because we are having difficulty and feeling stuck we ARE strong, we WILL find laughter and the things that matter to us again. We need to take a breath, take some time to heal and all will be fine. Thank you. In love and light Cheryle
