Pain and loss are an inevitable part of life. Sometimes when we are grieving for the loss of what we see as a valuable part of our lives, we are blinded to the beauty that is the backdrop to circumstances beyond our control. My friend has a tree in her garden which delivers the most beautiful purple flowers in the spring/summer time. These flowers are mesmerising whilst proudly displaying themselves on their branches. You cannot fail to be struck by their beauty. One year, we had a particularly gusty month of May and sadly, the next morning after a very windy night, purple petals lay strewn all around on a carpet of green. I was touched by the loss of the leaves so soon, but could not fail to see the beauty of the pattern the petals had formed on the grass. This led to me see that there is beauty in every situation if we look for it.

Purple Tree

I hope our purple tree
wasn’t too traumatised
by the actions of the Mighty Wind
and the Goddess of the Trees!
A carpet of purple petals sounds very alluring,
and I hope our purple tree recognised
that sometimes losing
its petals maybe painful,
But it can be beautiful
to the beholder’s eye.

My Lighthouse Waits for Me

Emotions are such powerful feelings. Anger, sadness, joy – we all feel these at some point in our lives. How do we cope with overwhelming sadness? Should we strive to feel joyful all the time? I really don’t know the answer to these questions, but I know there is an inner well of support which can be called on and this can take the form of words. It is amazing how words strung together can lift you. Words can come from within and without (listening to others or simply reading what they have to say). My Lighthouse Waits for Me does exactly this for me:

MY LIGHTHOUSE WAITS FOR ME

Today we talked of floating in the sea
Of doubts and fears, and misery
We talked of love and peace and self
Together we made a pact to delve

Into how the future looked for me
And what I gained or lost from therapy
And how I felt that it would be
Where was I now in terms of safety?

My analogy came back deeply profound
Floating purposefully in the sea,
Clinging to my raft, but not desperately
From where I sat, I glimpsed the shore

She smiled and nodded thoughtfully
And with genius it seemed to me
Suggested with a twinkle in her eye
“Let’s aim to build a lighthouse for you to see”

“That would make your journey so much more
An easier passage for you to bear”
I brightened visibly at her analogy
So glad we were sailing in the same boat!

So there my lighthouse stands true and proud
Whispering silently it beckons me on
“Don’t give up now”, it says to me
“I’m here for you, your guiding light”

“Too long you’ve floated aimlessly,
In a rough and stormy sea,
Just keep your eyes focused on me
I represent peace and tranquillity
In your life”.

My Rainbow

Hello! Yesterday I wanted to inspire women everywhere to really believe in themselves and to value themselves wherever they are in their lives. To quote the late Maya Angelou we are “phenomenal”. Some days we are up and some days we are down, but it doesn’t mean we have to stay down forever. Here is another poem to make you smile: MY RAINBOW My rainbow is never far away I see it even

MY RAINBOW

My rainbow is never far away

I see it even when others don’t

It beckons me silently from above

Its illuminating colours say:

Red is for fire, fire in my belly

Do the things I want to do, and do not turn to jelly

When problems haunt and distress me

Red says be strong and don’t be

Fooled into thinking that yellow

Means you’re cowardly

Yellow brings out the sunshine

Of your smile, let it linger for a while

And if you’re feeling blue

Smile, feel the fire in your belly

Chase those blues away

Absolutely refuse to let them stay

Take a trip if that’s an option

And off to Indigo, or even to the moon

In your imagination the places you can go

Don’t need an airline ticket!

So Violet, what a pretty name

Smile, feel the fire in your belly

Chase those blues away and off to Indigo

Enjoy your imaginary rainbow trip

They’ll be so green with envy

When they see your yellow

Sunshine smile, know you’ve

Chased those blues away!

Enjoyed your trip to Indigo

Felt the fire in your belly

Saw your legs didn’t turn to jelly

Because you refuse to let it do

That wobbly thing it does

When you’re feeling as if

Life has kicked the stuffing out of you

Instead of jumping into bed

Think Rainbow!

Smile, feel the fire in your belly

Chase those blues away

And while your checkin’

Your virtual ticket

For your trip to Indigo

Sit back and peel yourself an Orange!

Strong Women

If you have ever felt “less than”, which let’s face it – who hasn’t?  It might not be all of the time, but just every now and then.  Remember that we as women are strong and powerful.

WOMAN

 Woman rise free and strong

Don’t be subservient to a world all wrong

A world that says stay home and imitate a bee

The busy, busy worker bee

No! Woman you are wise, mighty and free

Free to be an amazing tool

Free to rule in whatever capacity

You choose to decree

That’s not to say

We rise and lose our femininity

It is to say, we stand proud

And claim our rightful place in society

A worker bee is simply that

A powerful creature in its own right

And so we don’t denigrate that little mite, but own

The premise that each creature

Stakes its place in time and space

So women of the world unite

And take a bite of that cherry

Taste and see how sweet

Sashay and move those dancing feet

We don’t need to run a home to

Show that this is our rightful place

We can choose to be whatever

We want to be or do

Doctor, lawyer, street cleaner

Creativity comes from within

It is divine and it’s your right

See that cherry – go ahead and bite!

Succulent and sweet its taste

Tarry for a while

Don’t haste

Woman you dictate your style!
