HEALING HURT
(Talking Therapy)
In moments of pure fantasy
And wild imagination
I fancy that Karen could be
Just distantly
Related to Julius!
But I’m rudely awakened
And snap back to reality
As beaming, in black she beckons me
To her small but cosy surgery
Karen Caesar sees me as
Her work in progress
She’s dedicated to releasing
And decreasing the pressure
That calls me religiously
Each fortnight on a Friday
To discuss with some intensity
The demons that bind me
For Karen Caesar
Explained her calling
At the end of a session
Which begged me to question
The degree of her ability
To address the responsibility
Of dealing with healing
The complexity of the human psyche
Karen Caesar tells me
That caring seized her
From a very young age
And at the stage
Where she felt that
She was able to lend her
Tender, and compassionate bearing
To caring for victims
Whose minds were so painfully hurting
It’s a splendid opportunity
This talking therapy
To engage with a professional
As dedicated as Karen
Caesar, who certainly aspires
To deliver with some certainty
A tireless and dedicated approach
And unstinting efficacy
To help her patient,
Speak, cry or remain silent
In her surmountable journey
Of feeling, healing and self discovery!
Dedicated to Dr Karen Caesar
This poem was written eight years ago, but I thought it tied in nicely with my posts on agoraphobia which having spanned 17 years of my life to date has had an enormous impact on my life and the way I live. My counsellor encouraged my creative side which emerged in the form of poetry as I started my healing journey. She said very kindly when we parted after a year in counselling that she would be the first to buy my poems if they were ever published.
I also want to thank TheCrazyBagLady for allowing me to use her sketch in this post. I saw it months ago before I even decided I was going to write about agoraphobia, but I felt at the time that it was such a beautiful sketch that I would one day use it. The opportunity came today and I took it, just as TheCrazyBagLady says on her sketch: “Every day another door opens”.
And to close, in the words of British Telecom (in their sales initiative some years ago): “It’s good to talk…”

A lovely tribute Marie and I hope you get to publish that book sometime – what an amazing gift that would be for the Doctor. She reminds me of myself as a young social worker when I had those noble intentions. I recall an adoption I facilitated and 21 years later meeting the happy family – how rewarding that was. So that poetry book would be as fitting.

Thank you Chevvy. That book … if I actually got a dollar for every time I mentioned publication, I would be sitting on a lounger on the balcony of my penthouse suite sipping champagne by now. Haahahahhaaaaaaaaaa! Instead I’m sitting up in bed blogging – what does that say about me?? Seriously though, I am working on it. :))
I think counsellors, social workers, and all who work tirelessly in mental health are the salt of the earth…

My children are always encouraging me to put my many stories I tell them, into a book- even if it’s just for myself. I need to get to that. I had a good friend passed on a few years ago at the age of 39. Somehow I think she knew she was going to die. A year before that, she self published a book of her poetry and gave it out freely to her friends. It’s one of the keepsakes in my treasure box of things.

Beautiful! Absolutely lovely story. Of course I am sorry to know your good friend passed, but the fact that she did that with her poetry is so lovely and awe -inspiring. Thank you for sharing.

Sad though it is, it was/is a beautiful story. She was a beautiful person. Interestingly she also threw the most flamboyant party at a top hotel on her 39th birthday – we had to dress in ballgowns, she had all our pictures professionally taken as we entered. She lauded some of us with praise for what we meant to her and called upon some of us to say a word the she had the band play her favourite song.(I can see clearly now)
She gave us each an autographed copy of her book. I remember feeling we were attending a funeral in reverse. Again, sad as it may be, we got to celebrate her life for her to hear and be part of. She didn’t make 40 sadly. As I said, there are so many stories that need telling and I’ll have to set it down on paper sometime.

Please don’t think that I’m being disrespectful or trivialising this beautiful story, but when I read, it feels almost like a film script. I loved all of it from the ball gowns right down to handing out her book. I can just see everyone coming out of the cinema crying their eyes out.
But back to reality. It must have been such a harrowing time for all concerned, for your dear friend knowing she had come to the end of her time here and her friends feeling that terrible loss of a dear sisterfriend.
When you are able, do try to set it down on paper. You are a wonderful story teller and I’m sure you will do your friend justice.

Don’t worry, I remember her very fondly. It was like an Oscar night. But that was the sort of person she was, small in stature, beautiful dimpled smile and a big heart -gone to soon but in style. Of course her passing was unexpected for all of us.
Yes, I’ll need to put pen to paper one of these days.😀

Another blogger (Sue Dreamwalker) has said on her blog that we ‘choose’ our own path. This is supposed to explain why as humans we have such experiences: death, tragedy, traumatic situations etc. If we are to believe that: your dear friend stayed here as long as she needed to in order to fulfil her destiny. It is very sad for those she has left behind, but I’m sure wherever she is now, she is watching all her dear friends and loving you just as when she was here. I hope this is a comfort for you. xx

What a beautiful tribute Marie! I’m very big on showing people gratitude, so I’m happy to see how you’ve done so here. I’m sure Dr. Caesar would be happy to know how much you’ve grown 🙂

This is begging to be spoken out loud in front of an audience.
Maybe if we all put our minds to it Chevvy, Dr. K and I could all come up and watch you…right up there on stage in the UK 🙂
YAAASSSSS!

Aww Lady G! I ‘felt’ that right in my tummy. What a beautiful comment. I may never stand up in the UK with you, Chevvy, and Dr K watching me on stage, but believe me when I say, I felt as if I had when I read those generous spirit-filled words!
I always knew words had ‘power’, but I really felt it this morning. Thank you! xxx

Of course it’s possible! There’s no doubt in my mind. But what are the chances?? lol You gotta have a dream, or else how you gonna have a dream come true, as the song says.
Obama might no longer be in the White House, confirming: ‘yaaaassssss we can!’ but he has set us a great example and role model, so I’m going to hang on to that …:)

I am so unconcerned with ‘the chances’ I am focusing on seeing your name…then your face… on the stage!
Psst….Does it count if I can only imagine the pretty little girl version of Lady M? LOL!!!

Hey! If you want to see the older version of that little girl, go to ‘about the author’ page. Be prepared for the ravages of time …. hahahahaha

I told Lady M Jnr, Lady G and she SMILED! I showed her a picture of you and guess what she said? “Mum! She looks like you!” I don’t know how you feel about that, but I think that’s a compliment.:)
I’ll try and dig out a more recent pic of Lady M Jnr. Be patient m’lady! :))
As for one of me, not sure I’m ready to let the world see me without my trusty hair straighteners!!!! (Yet!!!)hahahahahaaa

I take that as a compliment for sure! LOL!
If I can show my non-straightened hair, so can you!
Every pic that you see on my blog is recent (late 2016).
There are younger pictures but those are easily spotted because I don’t look much like them anymore 😦 though I wish I did 🙂

OK you’re slowly talking me round to showing my natural curls – very much like yours, I have to say.
I know what you mean about wanting to look like your younger self still. But age catches up with us all. I have a poem about that, I might post it.:)
Bet you don’t look that much different though. People don’t see themselves as others do.:)
