Guidance

When I’m floundering fixedly on facing fears; fully aware of my shortcomings, I find you pointing proudly in the direction that I should go. Don’t you know that if I go, I go with the knowledge that I am not enough out there on my own? My needs are not necessarily manifold, but many are they and they won’t go away without first feeding that part of me which hungers for your staunch support; stepping in line with me.

So when you point, please don’t point with those elegant finely forbidding fingers. Instead, firmly hold my hand, grasp it lovingly and lead me along the path where the bluebells grow, dancing in freshly fallen snow, in the chill wind of April’s noon-day sun.

Today, I discovered these beautiful verses in a post I read today and was minded to share them with you. The verses touched my heart and made me smile.

“If, of thy mortal goods, thou art bereft,
And from thy slender store two loaves
alone to thee are left,
Sell one & from the dole,
Buy Hyacinths to feed the soul”
– Muslihuddin Sadi,
13th Century Persian Poet

“If I had but two loaves of bread
I would sell one of them
& buy White Hyacinths to feed my soul.”
– Elbert Hubbard
(1856-1915)

Water lilies

Pain and loss are an inevitable part of life. Sometimes when we are grieving for the loss of what we see as a valuable part of our lives, we are blinded to the beauty that is the backdrop to circumstances beyond our control. My friend has a tree in her garden which delivers the most beautiful purple flowers in the spring/summer time. These flowers are mesmerising whilst proudly displaying themselves on their branches. You cannot fail to be struck by their beauty. One year, we had a particularly gusty month of May and sadly, the next morning after a very windy night, purple petals lay strewn all around on a carpet of green. I was touched by the loss of the leaves so soon, but could not fail to see the beauty of the pattern the petals had formed on the grass. This led to me see that there is beauty in every situation if we look for it.

Purple Tree

I hope our purple tree
wasn’t too traumatised
by the actions of the Mighty Wind
and the Goddess of the Trees!
A carpet of purple petals sounds very alluring,
and I hope our purple tree recognised
that sometimes losing
its petals maybe painful,
But it can be beautiful
to the beholder’s eye.

Today’s assignment is to write a post which builds on one of the comments left by me on a post I read yesterday. As the eagle-eyed among you will have noticed that I haven’t done any of the assignments this week bar this one. So I hadn’t commented on any posts yesterday, therefore in order to complete this assignment I read a few today and left comments on a few posts. But the one I’m going to write my post on today is Shower Thoughts(writing as Superishness) post about “Flower Power – Mood Upper” where she talks about the effect that flowers can have on your mood. She says: “I was not feeling the best today and just wanted to stay in bed. Afraid to move, afraid to think… this is one of those depressing days for me.

My mother in law who is such a lovely lady kept on checking up on me to see if I’m okay and asked me if I wanted to go with her to get some olives. So I ended up going anyway. Well it’s a bit of a diversion I guess so I can stop thinking about the demons (problems) in my head.

After my MIL’s errands we went to the Flower Power Garden and I was just at awe!. Flowers are just so beautiful that even my worries disappeared.”

Role Model?

Flowers are always
beautifully dressed,
they don’t interrupt or
speak over you.
They are stylish,
well bred, thoughtful and easy on the eye.
Their language is universal
They speak love
They speak gratitude
They say “sorry”
They give selflessly
Something to think about?

Heaven

There are always going to be days when we find ourselves in situations which can only be described as “heavenly”.  Some years ago I sat on a hotel balcony in Cyprus, basking in the heat of the sun, feeling happy and relaxed.  I glanced around and admired the view and my surroundings and it occurred to me that I was experiencing my heaven.  It occurred to me that heaven doesn’t have to be a far off place, in another dimension.  Heavenly feelings and thoughts can be experienced in simple things – it can be right now, right here …

Heaven

Heaven is not in the sky

Heaven is where I want it to be

Heaven is here on the balcony

Heaven can be there walking by the sea

Heaven is to the right of me

Heaven is to the left of me

Heaven surrounds me

I must not go looking

I must not go searching

Heaven surrounds me

Heaven is in a beautiful flower

Heaven calls me in a church tower

Heaven beckons me with angelic fingers

Pointing accurately to the shores of infinity

Heaven’s door never closes

I can approach it in small doses

Or I can jump in fully clothed

In moments of sanity or even insanity

And bathe in the glorious swell of its tidal wave

Heaven chooses me

Heaven doesn’t exclude me

Heaven is where I want it to be

And for that I am thankful
